In order to inspire schoolchildren and students to study law and to motivate young lawyers to consider a career at the Supreme Court, two videos have been created and published on the Court's YouTube channel and website, in which senators’ assistants and legal research counsels speak about their work at the Senate (Supreme Court of Latvia).
A senator’s assistant is a senator’s right hand, who examines case files, drafts reports and judgments. This job requires high analytical skills and the ability to plan one's work. The video also highlights opportunities for professional development and for gaining valuable experience that can serve as an excellent foundation for a future career in the judiciary.
Whereas, the video on the role of a legal research counsel introduces the main duties of the legal research counsel at the Supreme Court, namely such as researching legal issues, drafting rulings in particularly complex cases and contributing to legislative drafting. This job requires not only the right education and experience, but also excellent research skills. The video shows how counsels provide essential support to senators.
Senators’ assistants Inese Vāverāne, Laura Vigupe, Dana Marzavina and legal research counsels Rihards Gulbis, Oskars Kulmanis and Ieva Liepiņa tell not only about their job responsibilities, but also reveal their motivation for working in this position and the revelations it has given them, as well as they provide insight into their daily routines.
The Supreme Court hopes that these videos will inspire young lawyers to choose their career path in the judiciary and the Supreme Court.
