Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court participates in activities dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the European Court of Justice on the 3rd and the 4th of December, in Luxembourg. On Monday, the 3rd of December, Forum for Chiefs Justices of the Supreme Courts “60 Years of Court’s collaboration with national courts: results and perspectives”.

On the 4th of December, ceremonial meeting will take place, and research on case-law of the European Court of Justice during 60 years published due to the 60th anniversary of the European Court of Justice will be presented at the meeting.

Gunars Kutris, the Chair of the Constitutional Court, also participates in activities dedicated to the anniversary of the European Court of Justice.

The European Court of Justice was founded in 1952. its main task is to evaluate rule of law of principal treaties of the European Union (the EU) and promote unified interpretation and application of its law. The Court also reviews claims filed by the European Commission (EC) or member states against another member states on violations of the EU principal treaties, claims of member states or the EU institutions on annulment of legislations adopted by the EC, Parliament or Council, request on prejudicial rulings, submitted by courts of member states.
