Senators receive Marks of Distinction for important contribution to development of judicial system and strengthening rule of law

On the eve of State Holidays, 22 employees of judicial system, inter alia Veronika Krumina, the Chairwoman of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate of the Supreme Court, and Edite Vernusa, the senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, received Marks of Distinction of Judicial System. Award is also granted to Vilnis Vietnieks, the ex-senator. Senators received 2nd rank Marks of Distinction for important contribution to development of judicial system and strengthening rule of law.
“Everyone, who has worked thinking not only about his/her own personal satisfaction, but also about prestige of Latvia and its judiciary, deserves appreciation and gratitude. Everyone being greeted today has done it with best conscience, with interest and pride about his/her work”, said Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, in ceremony of giving awards in Great Hall of the University of Latvia.
Greeting both those who received Marks of Distinction of Judicial System and those who received awards and Writings of Appreciation of the Ministry of Justice, the Chief Justice wished so that belief of every employee of judicial system to meaning of their work for state would grow in State Holidays and would be kept in everyday life and so that this work would increase social trust that we live in the state which is not only independent, but is also legal.
Mark of Distinction of Judicial System was created jointly by the Ministry of Justice, General Prosecutor’s Office and the Supreme Court in 2008 celebrating 90th anniversary of Judiciary of the Republic of Latvia. Forty two present and ex-judges and employees of the Supreme Court have received Marks of Distinction.
