Before Christmas and New Year it became a good tradition in the Supreme Court to organise charity campaign and to collect donations for children, whose life is difficult. In the end of 2010 judges and court employees donated 631.50 LVL, which were sent to Family crisis centre in Zante, in Kandava region.
Family crisis centre in Zante gives help to 200 children suffered from abuse every year. Money donated by judges and employees of the Supreme Court was transferred as a gift to the account of this centre on the 29th of December, and it will be used to improve children household conditions.
The tradition of Christmas charity campaign started in the Supreme Court in 2002, when donations of employees of the court – books, toys, writing materials and children’s clothes – were collected during the total campaign organised by Latvian Television Company. During following years the court, according to recommendations of Latvian Children’s Fund, supports concrete children’s institutions, transferring money donated to their accounts. Special boarding school in Rudzate received donations in 2003; children’s home in Ergeme, in Valka region – in 2004; the centre of children social rehabilitation „Musmajas” in Kraslava – in 2005; the Centre of children and family „Rukitis” in Saldus received almost 600 LVL in 2006, and in 2007 donated money in amount of 787 LVL was given to boarding school of sanatorium type in Raiskums, in Cesu region.
