On June 3, the Supreme Court was visited by Elnur Sultanov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Latvia, to discuss with Aigars Strupišs, President of the Supreme Court, opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the field of the judiciary.
Ambassador Elnur Sultanov provided information on current developments in Azerbaijan's state policy and judicial system, noting that this year Azerbaijan is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Constitution and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Judicial Council, which will be marked by an international conference in June this year. Elnur Sultanov also spoke about international cooperation within the framework of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) and Azerbaijan's successful cooperation with the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
During the meeting, the President of the Supreme Court, Aigars Strupišs, introduced the Ambassador to the functions of the Supreme Court as a court of cassation and its current activities – carried out both at the international level and the national level, giving particular emphasis on the Supreme Court's ongoing project which aims to develop an artificial intelligence tool for searching through court decisions, based on specific search parameters and context, and resulting in the streamlined work of the court.
The participants agreed that there are opportunities for cooperation, with the Embassy promoting the exchange of experience between the courts of both countries.
