On the 1st of April, Pavels Gruzins, long-term senator, the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate, the deputy of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, terminated execute duties of the senator. Saeima in its session of the 24th of March dismissed Pavels Gruzins from the post of the senator of the Supreme Court by his own free will as from the 1st of April.

However, Pavels Gruzins doesn’t leave work in the Supreme Court. Taking into account long-term experience of the senator, he was invited for the post of the Head of the Division of the Case-law. Pavels Gruzins will start working in the new post as from Monday, the 4th of April.

Both the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate and the deputy of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will be elected by judges of the Supreme Court in plenary session. The date of next plenary session is unknown yet.

The senator Peteris Dzalbe according to decree of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is instructed to execute duties of the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases.
