On Monday, September 9, the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court will hold two elections – senators will elect the Chair of the Senate's Department of Administrative Cases and a member of the Judicial Council from among the Supreme Court's judges.

The former Chair of the Department of Administrative Cases, Veronika Krūmiņa, has become a judge of the Constitutional Court, therefore a new Chair of the Department is needed.

The Plenary Session shall elect the Chair of the Senate’s Departments for a five-year term of office.

The Plenary Session has to elect a member of the Judicial Council, as Senator Dzintra Balta's term of office is coming to an end.

The Judicial Council is composed of seven elected judges, one of whom is a senator elected by the Plenary of the Supreme Court. The term of office of a member of the Judicial Council is four years. A member of the Judicial Council may be re-elected, but not more than for two consecutive terms.

The Plenary Session of the Supreme Court will be broadcast on the Supreme Court YouTube channel at 10:00 o’clock.
