On March 31 expires the term of service of Constitutional Court judges Uldis Kinis and Kaspars Balodis, and their place will be taken by Janis Neimanis nominated by the Supreme Court Plenary Session and Arturs Kucs nominated by the Cabinet of Ministers who were approved by the Saeima (Parliament) on 22 December 2016.
As Janis Neimanis was the judge of the Supreme Court before being approved as judge of the Constitutional Court, thus he should not repeatedly give judge's oath, and starts working at the Constitutional Court on Monday, 3 April.
In turn, Arturs Kucs takes up office of the Constitutional Court judge after giving an oath to the State President.
Constitutional Court has seven judges and in accordance with the Constitutional Court Law judges are appointed by the Saeima. Three judges of the Constitutional Court are confirmed according to proposal of at least ten members of the Saeima, two - by proposal of the Cabinet of Ministers, but two more – by proposal of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court. The term of office of the Constitutional Court judge is ten years.
