On Tuesday, January 16, Ivars Bickovics, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, met with Inara Murniece, Speaker of the Saeima, in the Saeima House.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court points out that this is a historic meeting, since it is the first time that he as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chair of the Council for the Judiciary has received an invitation to meet with the Speaker of the Saeima.

Officials discussed the role and place of the Council for the Judiciary in the system of state power. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court agrees with the Speaker of the Saeima that the work of the Council for the Judiciary should become more visible.

During the meeting, amendments to the Law "On Judicial Power" passed on the second reading were discussed. Ivars Bickovics repeated the arguments of the Council for the Judiciary as to why it supported the amendments that were canceled by the State President.

The Speaker of the Saeima also heard the viewpoint of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court regarding information about insolvency proceedings that has reached the public space. The Chief Justice informed about the work of the Supreme Court in the formation of a uniform case law and the study on case law in commercial matters and insolvency cases planned to be carried out this year.
