Today, 15 May, the Saeima (parliament) confirmed Aigars Strupišs as President of the Supreme Court for a second term of office.

Eighty-one members of the Saeima voted in favour of this decision, nine voted against and one abstained.

Aigars Strupišs has been performing the duties of the President of the Supreme Court since June 16, 2020. The statutory term of office of the President of the Supreme Court is five years. The same person may hold this office for no more than two consecutive terms.

Aigars Strupišs was re-nominated for the position of President of the Supreme Court at the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court. The Judicial Council also expressed its support for the candidate.
