Today, July 16, the Supreme Court publishes the first post on the social network – in its official Twitter account @Augstaka_tiesa. This will serve as another channel of court communication to provide accurate and up-to-date information about the Supreme Court and the Judicial Council to the general public in a convenient way.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Aigars Strupiss points out that it is important for the courts to inform the public and do so in a way that is accessible, understandable and convenient for the public. Because only well informed and knowledgeable society will be able to understand and trust the work of the courts. Therefore, the Supreme Court joins the stream of social media and opens a Twitter account. It is an opportunity to transcend the boundaries of the audience of professionals, and the Supreme Court takes advantage of this opportunity.
