Marite Zagere, the senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, was elected for the post of the Chair of Disciplinary Court in Plenary Session of the Supreme Court on the 16th of March.
Marite Zagere received 9 votes in secret vote, another candidate Andris Gulans, the senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate, received 9 votes.
However, the senator Inguna Radzevica was elected for the post of a member of Disciplinary Court from the Department of criminal Cases of the Senate.
Peteris Dzalbe, the former Chair of Disciplinary Court, being a deputy of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was elected for the post of the Chair of Judicial Disciplinary Committee, so new member of Disciplinary Court and new Chair of the Disciplinary Court had to be elected in Plenary Session.
Disciplinary Court is called in the Senate of the Supreme Court to evaluate rule of law of negative statements given by Judicial Disciplinary Committee and Judicial Qualifications Committee. The Plenary Session of the Supreme Court elects six senators in composition of Disciplinary Court – two senators from each department of the Senate are elected.
Disciplinary Court was founded in 2010. Senators Marite Zagere and Aldis Lavins are elected from the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, Anita Nusberga and Inguna Radzevica represent the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate, and Andris Gulans and Vesma Kakste represent the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate.
