The Supreme Court Museum has received a special and valuable gift – the Grand Medal of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) awarded to Professor Kalvis Torgāns, a former Senator of the Supreme Court of Latvia (Senate).

When visiting the museum, Kalvis Torgāns’ wife Antra Torgāne gifted the medal to the Supreme Court as a souvenir from the now deceased senator.

At one time, Kalvis Torgāns had mentioned that he was thinking about someplace to leave this medal, which he considered a great recognition for his work in the field of civil rights. He believed that the most suitable place could be the Supreme Court Museum. The spouse fulfilled his wish.

The Grand Medal of the Latvian Academy of Sciences was awarded to Kalvis Torgāns in 2018 for establishing a modern school of civil law in Latvia and for significant contribution to the implementation of theoretical knowledge in practice.

Kalvis Torgāns (1939–2021), Doctor of Law, Professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Latvia, Academician at the Latvian Academy of Sciences, was a senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court in 2008–2014.
