Today, more than 40 students from the University College of Economics and Culture visited the Supreme Court to hear the Lesson on the Law given by Veronika Krumina, Chair of the Department of Administrative Cases. Although the students of the University are not emerging lawyers, lecturer Jolanta Dinsberga highly welcomes the opportunity to get acquainted with the judicial system and the competence of the Supreme Court on a face-to-face basis, and has been using this opportunity for several years.
Lecturer Jolanta Dinsberga acknowledges: "Students appreciate these lessons and very positive commentaries follow. Students recognize that information received on-the-spot on the different types of processes, appeals and course of the proceedings gives a good understanding of the judicial system as a whole, and this knowledge is also useful even if there is no intention to bind one’s future directly with the jurisprudence."
Every year the Supreme Court organizes Days of First-year Students, enabling law students to get acquainted with the work of the Supreme Court, meeting with the Chief Justice Ivars Bickovics. As well as, every year, pupils from all over Latvia visit the Court. In 2017, during the Days of First-year Students, the Supreme Court was attended and the Chief Justice Ivars Bickovics was met by nine groups of students (200 students in total) from higher education institutions of Latvia. More than 130 students from different grades attended the Lesson on the Law and asked questions to Veronika Krumina, Chair of the Department of Administrative Cases. The number of visitors testifies that students are very much interested in their future profession and life's calling, because they acquire knowledge not only by attending the Lesson on the Law, participating in guided tours, the Shadow Day and Career Day, but are very happy to devote their own holidays to get acquainted with the work of courts and public authorities even on Saturdays within the framework of the Junior Lawyers School.
