On Thursday, January 18, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics was invited to an annual meeting with President Raimonds Vejonis to discuss the topicalities of judicial system.

Both the results of the past year and the issue of remuneration of judges and court employees were discussed. The President emphasized that the remuneration of judges should be competitive in order to attract the best professionals of the sector.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court informed the President about the activities of the judiciary in connection with the information about insolvency proceedings that has reached the public space. The judges of the Supreme Court expressed their opinions to the Council for the Judiciary, and the heads of the judicial self-government bodies were also invited to examine the issue at the Council for the Judiciary. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court agreed with the President that the judiciary is able to critically evaluate the events and seek the necessary improvements.
