The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court instructs Eriks Kalnmeiers as a candidate for the post of General Prosecutor

On June 15 the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics made a decision to instruct Eriks Kalnmeiers, the chief prosecutor of the Department of Cases Reviewed in the Court of the Department of Criminal Law of General Prosecutor’s Office, for the post of General Prosecutor.
Main criteria for choice of candidate were professionalism of Eriks Kalnmeiers and his rich work experience in prosecutor’s office. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics indicates that one of arguments of choice was necessity to provide a succession of work of prosecutor’s office, and this candidate perfectly knows the system of work of prosecutor’s office, mechanisms of its operation and also problems that are to be solved to improve work of prosecutor’s office. The chief prosecutor E. Kalnmeiers is a respected professional among employees of prosecutor’s office and other employees related to court system, indicates the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Eriks Kalnmeiers was born in 1960. In 1987 he graduated the University of Latvia in the field of law, in 2004 he gained Master’s grade in the field of law in University of Latvia.
Eriks Kalnmeiers started work in prosecutor’s office in 1987, and then it was prosecutor’s office of Kirovs district of Riga city. Since 1988 till 1993 he worked in the Department of Investigation of Especially Important Cases of Prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Latvia, starting from the post of inspector up to the post of the Head of the Department. Then he was a sworn advocate for several years. In 2000 he came back to General Prosecutor’s Office, and since that time he has been chief prosecutor of the Department of Cases Reviewed in the Court of the Department of Criminal Law of General Prosecutor’s Office, rank – government adviser on justice.
