On Thursday, the 15th of December, Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, accepted vow of twenty-one sworn advocates accepted in the Latvian Board of Sworn Advocates.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court having accepted the vow, when greeting new advocates wished them to be in demand among clients and respected among colleagues, taken account of and reliable ones. Advocate is representative of free legal profession, however, he/she is also a representative of judiciary at the same time, and by his/her work, behaviour and knowledge forms not only impression about himself/herself, but also about court system and about the state in general.

Most of new sworn advocates are ex-assistants of sworn advocates - Baiba Arnolde, Lasma Eisaka, Viktors Gargazins, Davids Gilis, Maris Intlers, Andra Jarbusa, Dmitrijs Kacanovs, Linda Lejina, Alise Melbarde, Ieva Orupe, Karina Parhomenko, Ivars Rudziks, Andrejs Sabluks, Anna Sedunova, Sarmis Spilbergs, Natalija Sproge, Alfreds Voronko and Maija Zaube.

Aldis Lieljuksis, general, doctor of law, ex-Head of State Police, later – State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and deputy of the Head of the State Fire and Rescue Service, Sandra Meinarte, executive director of company HANNER Real Estate and Julija Stepanenko, the lawyer of Latvijas Finieris JSC also joined community of sworn advocates.

To become a sworn advocate, a person who has an appropriate education and work experience, passes the advocate’s exam. If the Board of Sworn Advocates hasn’t received information that there are obstacles stated in the Law on Advocacy for admission of the new candidate, it admits a candidate in the community of sworn advocates. Before sworn advocates start their work, according to Paragraph 46 of the Law on Advocacy the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court accepts the vow of new advocates.
