The most honourable sworn advocate both in sense of age and previous experience among those 23 advocates who gave a vow to Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, is Vilnis Vietnieks – the ex-senator of the Supreme Court. Retiring after having worked as a judge, he decided to continue his further legal activity in advocacy.

While greeting V. Vietnieks and other new advocates, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court reminded that work of advocate is a challenge to a certain extent, as there are numerous colleagues, and each must try to be the best, the most sough-after among clients and respected. At the same time I. Bickovics wished advocates not to forget while executing their duties, that their work is an element of court system that to greater extent forms social understanding and attitude.

Number of advocates has been extended by one more ex-judge – Vilmars Endzelis from Administrative Regional Court, as well as Liga Cirule, the ex-Chief of the Department of Combating the Organised Crime of the Main Department of Criminal Police of the State Police; Ingrida Veiksa, Dr. iur., pro-Dean of the Business High School “Turiba” and Violeta Zeppa-Priedite, Dr. iur., the lecturer of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia.

The vow was also given by assistants to sworn advocates Edgars Briedis, Kaspars Cerbakovs, Deniss Dmitrenoks, Uldis Judinskis, Tatjana Jurkevica, Janis Lide, Girts Miezitis, Inese Pasparne, Ramona Tiltina, Janis Zakis and Iveta Zelca, lawyers practicing individually and in bureaus – Linards Baumanis, Guntars Prieditis, Arturs Pugejs, Roberts Rimsa, Dzintars Zonenbergs and Alvis Zacests.

On the 15th of June the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court accepted also the vow of seven bailiffs. Janis Strizko, Mara Kucinska, Agrita Kanepe and Iluta Broka according to decree of the Minister of Justice are instructed to posts of sworn bailiffs in territory of Riga regional court, Liga Krima – of Vidzeme regional court, Sniedze Upite – of Zemgale regional court and Zanna Osipova – of Latgale regional court.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court admitted that bailiffs undertake psychologically hard and unrewarding post that is, however, very significant for general court system. I. Bickovics wished them to stay humane and to be able to explain grounds for their actions in the most difficult situations of execution of verdict.

According to the Law on Advocacy and the Law on Bailiffs, sworn advocates and sworn bailiffs can start executing their duties after they have given a vow to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
