On 22 January, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court accepted an oath of Inguna Kronberga and Kristine Patmalniece, advocated admitted to the Latvian Council of Sworn Advocates. Both previously had been assistants to sworn advocates.
After accepting of an oath Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, wished to new advocates to occupy stable place in large community of advocates with their attitude towards work, clients and colleagues. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court also reminded that advocates have been significant part of a court system, and they must take care of prestige of the court system with the same responsibility as judges, prosecutors and bailiffs.
To become a sworn advocate, a person who has an appropriate education and work experience, passes the advocates’ exam. Having passed the exam, if the Council of Sworn Advocates hasn’t received information that there are obstacles stated in the Law on Advocacy for admission of the new candidate, it admits a candidate to the community of sworn advocates. In accordance with Section 46 of the Law on Advocacy the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court accepts the oath of newly admitted advocates.
