On the 27th of November, Veronika Krumina, the Chairwoman of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate met representatives of European Commission Directorate-General for Justice who visited Latvia on post-programme supervising mission of European Commission and International Monetary Fund.

Meeting was initiated by representatives of European Commission. Jeanne De Jeagher, Zigo Rutkovskis and Gatis Eglitis wished to discuss with senator Krumina issues related to effectivisation of work of Latvian courts.

Representatives of European Commission were interested in new procedure of professional evaluation of judges and judicial training system.

Speaking about decreasing number of cases pending in courts, the Chairwoman of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate pointed out amendments to Administrative Procedure Law adopted recently, as they should help to accelerate review of cases. Non-traditional methods of decreasing number of cases pending, for example, to appoint high-level professionals and civil servants of the field of judiciary for the post of a judge temporarily, were also discussed. The senator Krumina also pointed out necessity to strengthen service of assistants to judges and other court personnel by means of training, appropriate remuneration and motivation system.

The second post-programme supervising mission of international creditors took place in Latvia from the 14th until the 27th of November. During this mission, execution of international obligations performed by Latvia and progress in economic improvements were evaluated. Experts from European Commission, International Monetary Fund and the World Bank participated in the mission.
