On May 7, the 2nd year students of the Department of Communication Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia visited the Supreme Court in order to get acquainted with the work of the Supreme Court and its cooperation with the media.
Students met with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics, who introduced them with Latvian judicial system and its desire for establishing constructive cooperation with the media.
Rasma Zvejniece, Head of the Division of Communication of the Supreme Court, gave insight into the tendencies and methods of the division’s work, as well as presented the Court Communication Strategy approved by the Council for the Judiciary. Baiba Kataja, Press Secretary of the Division of Communication spoke about her experience in presenting the information on court cases.
Under the guidance of the Division of the Communication, the students also learned about the historic Palace of Justice and visited the Supreme Court Museum.

The Supreme Court invites also other communication students of other higher education institutions to learn about the work of the judicial system and the Supreme Court, as well as the court communication and the work of the Division of Communication of the Supreme Court. This may also be useful for prospective journalists and public relations specialists.
