On Tuesday, October 14, judges from the administrative courts of Celje and Ljubljana visited the Supreme Court of Latvia to learn about the specifics of the Supreme Court's work in examining administrative cases. The delegation was welcomed by Anita Kovaļevska, Chair of the Senate's Department of Administrative Case, and Līga Dāce, Senator's Assistant.

Anita Kovaļevska and Līga Dāce provided the judges with a general overview of the Supreme Court's place in the Latvian court system and the structure of the Court, describing the functions of each structural unit and providing a more detailed overview of the competence of the Department of Administrative Cases and case examination statistics for the Court as a whole and for the Department individually. The Slovenian colleagues were interested in issues such as case examination deadlines and how they are set, as well as whether individuals can file complaints with the court themselves or only through a legal representative. Both sides discussed the similarities and differences in the representation of parties in court, the examination of cases in oral hearings and written proceedings, and the application of interim measures.

The experience exchange visit of Slovenian administrative court judges in Latvia will take place throughout the week of October 13-17. During the visit, there are meetings taking place at the District Administrative Court, the Regional Administrative Court, the Constitutional Court, the Ombudsman’s Office, the Judicial Academy, and other institutions.
