On 18 August, Veronika Krūmiņa, the Chair of the Senate's Department of Administrative Cases, was released of her senatorial duties for a period of 10 years, as provided for by the Constitutional Court Law. The Saeima (parliament) confirmed her as a judge of the Constitutional Court at its meeting on 11 April, setting 19 August as the first work day for Veronika Krūmiņa in this position.

Veronika Krūmiņa had been a judge of the Supreme Court since 2005, and since December 2007 she had been the Chair of the Senate’s Department of Administrative Cases.

Following Veronika Krūmiņa's departure to the Constitutional Court and until the confirmation of a new Chair of the Department the chairperson’s duties shall be performed by Senator Rudīte Vīduša (August 19, 22-28), Senator Vēsma Kakste (August 20-21 August) and Senator Anita Kovaļevska (from August 29 onwards).

The Plenary Session of the Supreme Court, which will elect the new Chair of the Senate's Department of Administrative Cases, will take place on September 9.
