Today, the Saeima (parliament) voted to approve Jānis Rozenbergs, a sworn advocate and Doctor of Law, as a senator of the Supreme Court. Seventy-two members of the Saeima voted in favour of his appointment, one abstained. The Saeima's decision will take effect on December 1.

Jānis Rozenbergs applied for the position of senator in the Senate’s Department of Criminal Cases. The general meeting of the Department’s senators decided to forward his candidacy for further approval for the position of senator.

Jānis Rozenbergs has 20 years of experience as a sworn advocate. He is currently also the liquidator of the ABLV Bank and a member of the board of SIA R.Invest.

For eight years, until April this year, he was the chairperson of the Latvian Council of Sworn Advocates. He is the chairperson of the Examination Commission of the Council of Sworn Advocates and the co-chairperson of the Latvian Association of Criminal Justice Advocates.

Since 2019, Jānis Rozenbergs has also been a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, and for the last three years he has been an associate professor. He is an expert in legal science at the Latvian Council of Science.

He has been awarded the Bar Association's Medal of Honor and the 1st Degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System.
