2 February, 2024
On February 2, having opened the exhibition "Retrospective. 20 years of Administrative courts", administrative courts commenced their 20th anniversary year.
The exhibition is organized by the Latvian Association of Administrative Judges. All administrative courts – the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate (Supreme Court), the Administrative Regional Court and the Administrative District Court – have contributed to creating the exhibition.
The exhibition shows photographs that capture moments and people that are special to administrative courts, as well as various interesting happenings. The exhibition provides an opportunity to look at the administrative courts from previously unrevealed points of view or simply to dwell on pleasant memories of shared experiences.
The exhibition was created in collaboration with the photographer Valters Poļakovs, who gave it an artistic touch.
At the opening of the exhibition, Veronika Krūmiņa, the Chair of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate, who was also present at the creation of administrative courts 20 years ago, said that exhibited photos remind her of both the events that had happened and the feelings that were felt throughout the years, "We most certainly have walked one of Latvia's beautiful sensory paths barefoot, enjoying various sensations – the warmth of the sand, the roughness of the cones, the stickiness of the clay and the coolness of the water. These photos, too, are not only a story and a reminder of events, but above all they make us remember sensations. Today we have the opportunity to travel back in time and to have a repeated experience of what we felt when these photos were taken. Some photographs will make one remember a joke or some awkward situation, others will make one feel the excitement of a certain moment, still others will evoke pride and joy. Some of them might make us feel sad. Each of these emotions and feelings has its place. All of them have shaped each of us as a person. All of them have accumulated the spirit of administrative courts, thus forming administrative courts as they are today. Let us appreciate each other! Let us appreciate what we have achieved! Thank you to everyone who participates in this journey of administrative courts!"
The artworks of Valdis Opmanis are also exhibited. The artist focuses on the genre of still life, in oil paintings depicting flower compositions, including lilacs. Purple lilacs have been chosen as the symbol of the administrative courts, and this motif permeates the exhibition as well.
The exhibition can be viewed in the building of the Administrative District Court, at Baldones iela 1A, Riga, until February 29 of this year during working hours. The visit should be arranged in advance by phone number +371 67077948.
