MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL FOR THE JUDICIARY AND DISCIPLINARY COURT WILL BE ELECTED AT THE PLENARY SESSION

Agenda of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court to be held on Monday, 15 September, includes two elections – member of the Council for the Judiciary from among judges of the Supreme Court and the member of the Disciplinary Court from among judges of the Department of Civil Cases must be elected.
In accordance with the law “On Judicial Power” term of office of elected members of the Council for the Judiciary is 4 years, and quadrennial term of Inara Garda, the judge of the Department of Civil Cases, served in the office of the member of the Council for the Judiciary has expired. Six representatives of judges in the Council for the Judiciary were elected by the Judges’ Conference on 5 September, and one must be elected by the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court.
The member of the Disciplinary Court in his turn must be elected from among judges of the Department of Civil Cases, as one of former composition, namely, Aldis Lavins, is not the judge of the Supreme Court, being elected to the office of the Chair of the Constitutional Court. In accordance with the Law on Disciplinary Liability of Judges, the Disciplinary Court consists of six judges of departments of the Supreme Court – by twos from the Department of Civil Cases, the Department of Criminal Cases and the Department of Administrative Cases, elected by the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court for five years.
The Plenary Session shall be held in Room 461, beginning at 9.00.
