Aiva Zarina, the judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases finishes with execution of work duties of the judge today. Saeima has dismissed her from the post of the judge of the Supreme Court as from the 16th of February as she reached maximum age of judge established in the law.
Aiva Zarina has worked as the judge more than 45 years, and she was awarded with the highest state award – The Order of Three Stars for the work of all her life.
Aiva Zarina started to work as the judge in 1965 in the court of Kirov (now - Central) district of Riga city and she was the Chair of this court for 25 years, since 1970 until 1995. A. Zarina started her work in the Supreme Court shortly before the new structure – the Senate and Chambers were formed in the Supreme Court in 1995, and she has been working as the judge in the Chamber of Civil Cases for 15 years.
Colleagues highly evaluated competency, responsibility, and feeling of justice and humanity of Aiva Zarina, giving her a Themis Award of the Supreme Court in 2005 in nomination “The Judge of the Year”, and nominating her for the title of the Person of the Year in 2010. New-come colleagues admired her confidence to work and ability to endure work load of the judge during so long time, keeping lively mind and cheerful view to life.
Aiva Zarina managed work group that had worked out draft of Latvian Code of Judicial Ethics that was approved in Conference of Latvian Judges in 1995, and she stuck by firm ethical and professional principles also in her own life.
