In order to discuss issues relevant to advisers working at a cassation court, the Supreme Court of Latvia’s legal research counsels visited the Supreme Court of Estonia (Riigikohus) on June 5 and 6 for an experience exchange.
Colleagues from both countries discussed the duties of advisers, the most frequently used databases, information available on court websites, digital means in court work, training programs and other issues relevant to daily work.
Following the discussions, the advisers from Latvia met with the Estonian Supreme Court advisers of the specific specialization to discuss relevant issues of criminal law, civil law and administrative law.
The advisors of the Supreme Courts discussed several judgments of the Supreme Court of Estonia in cases that are similar to cases that are being examined or have already been examined by Latvian courts.
Moreover, the Estonian colleagues introduced the Latvian Supreme Court advisers to the history of the Supreme Court of Estonia and showed the Court premises. At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation of advisers from Latvia and their Estonian colleagues took part in a tour of Tartu.
Reinis Odiņš, Rihards Gulbis, Viktorija Soņeca, Oskars Kulmanis, Sindija Zemīte, Ilvija Pūce, Jānis Geks, Reinis Markvarts and Elīna Grigore-Bāra – representatives of legal research counsels of all departments of the Senate (Supreme Court) and the Division of Case-law and Research – took part in the meeting.
