On July 7, Aigars Strupiss starts work in the Supreme Court Department of Civil Cases. The new judge will give judge’s solemn oath to the President of Latvia on July 15.
Aigars Strupiss has more than 20 years of experience in academic and research work in field of law and practical law, and in drafting of legal provisions, which had been performed in status of an independent expert. He also has had long-term cooperation with different state institutions and international organizations, had worked in permanent working group on the commercial law at the Ministry of Justice and in the Consultative Council of the Register of Enterprises.
In 1990, Aigars Strupiss acquired lawyer’s diploma in the University of Latvia and at present he studies in doctoral programme.
The Saeima (Parliament) confirmed Aigars Strupiss in the office of a judge of the Supreme Court without limitation of term of office upon proposal of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Having assessed candidacy of Aigars Strupiss in two rounds of open competition for selection of candidates to the office of a judge of the Supreme Court and having received positive statement of the Judicial Qualifications Committee, the committee for selection of competition pretenders considered him to be appropriate for the office of a judge of the Supreme Court Department of Civil Cases.
There will be 14 judges in the Supreme Court Department of Civil Cases now. In accordance with the decision of the Board of Justice, number of judges determined in the Department of Civil Cases shall be 15 judges.
