On May 8, 37 of the justice system’s highest awards – the Badges of Honor – were presented during a formal ceremony at the Ministry of Justice. Among the recipients there were three judges and two employees of the Supreme Court.

For outstanding lifetime contributions to the development of the justice system and the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law in Latvia and around the world, as well as for significant contributions to the development of judicial practice and the professional development of judges, Normunds Salenieks, Chair of the Senate’s Department of Civil Cases, was awarded the 1st Degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System.

The 2nd degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System was awarded to Valerijs Maksimovs, Senator of the Senate’s Department of Civil Cases, and Anita Poļakova, Senator of the Senate’s Department of Criminal Cases, for particularly significant contributions to the development of the justice system, strengthening democracy and the rule of law, as well as the development of case-law and the promotion of knowledge and professionalism among members of the judicial system, and to Anita Zikmane, Head of the Division of Case-law and Research, for a particularly significant contribution to the development of the justice system, the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law, as well as the development of case-law.

Konstantīns Vaivods, Legal Research Counsel of the Senate’s Department of Civil Cases, was awarded the 3rd degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System for exemplary, honest, and creative performance of his duties in the field of justice, as well as for his significant contribution to the development of case-law.

The awards were presented by Inese Lībiņa-Egnere, Minister of Justice and Chair of the State Honours Council of the Justice System, and Aigars Strupišs, President of the Supreme Court and Chair of the Judicial Council.

The Badge of Honour of the Justice System has been presented since 2008.
