Senators Briede and Mita are approved as ad hoc judges from Latvia in the European Court of Human Rights

Ad hoc judges from Latvia in the European Court of Human Rights are approved in the Cabinet of Ministers on the 13th of March.
Jautrite Briede and Dace Mita, senators of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate, Kristine Kruma, the judge of the Constitutional Court and Martins Mits, pro-rector of Riga Graduate School of Law are included in this list.
Selection of ad hoc judges from Latvia was performed by selection committee consisting of representatives of legislative power, executive power and judiciary, as well as representatives of academic environment. Applications in open competition announced were submitted by eight candidates.
Anad hocjudge participates in hearing the case in the European Court of Human Rights in cases, when the national judge from the contracting state can not sit in the case. According to the European Convention of Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the President of the Chamber shall choose the judge from a list submitted in advance by the Contracting Party.
