As from the 20th of August, Peteris Opincans starts execute his duties in the post of the senator of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate of the Supreme Court.   

The decision about appointment of Peteris Opincans, the judge of the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court in vacant post of the senator of the department was passed in general meeting of senators of the Department of Criminal Cases on the 6th of June.

Now, the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate will consist of six senators.  

Peteris Opincans was born in 1955. He obtained lawyer’s qualification at the Faculty of Law in Latvia’s State University.

He has worked in court system since 1990 – he was the judge and the Chairman of Liepaja court and the Chairman of Judicial Panel of Criminal Cases of Kurzeme regional court. Since 2000, he has worked in the post of the judge in the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court.
