New Judicial Qualifications Committee is elected in electronic vote on the 21st of September, in extramural Latvian Judicial Conference.
Veronika Krumina, the Chair of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate, Gunars Aigars, the Chair of the Chamber of Civil Cases and Ervins Kuskis, the Chair of the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, Anna Biksiniece, the Chair of the Judicial Panel of Civil Cases of Latgale regional court, Silva Reinholde, the Chair of Kurzeme regional court, Zita Kupce, the Chair of the Administrative regional court, Gunita Galina, the Chair of Saldus district court, Kristine Zdanovska, the judge of Riga city Vidzeme suburb court and Inara Zarina, the Head of the Department of landbooks of Riga district court are elected in composition of Judicial Qualifications Committee.
In total, 22 candidates were nominated for elections of Judicial Qualifications Committee.
526 participants took part in Judicial e-conference (according to lots drawn), and 482 judges voted. 14 votes were considered to be invalid.
Judicial Qualifications Committee is institution of judicial self-government and its task is to consolidate professional independence of judges. Judicial Qualifications Committee evaluates professional background of candidate for the post of a judge organising qualifications exam, as well as it provides statement for transfer of a judge to vacant posts and it will implement evaluation of professional operation of judges as from the 1st of January, 2013.
Term of office of present Judicial Qualifications Committee expires on the 1st of January, 2013.
