The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will promote candidacy of Livija Slica, the judge of Administrative regional court, to the Saeima for approval in the post of a judge of the Supreme Court without limitation of term of office.
When evaluating candidacy of Livija Slica in two stages of open competition of selection of candidates for the post of a judge of the Supreme Court and having received positive statement of Judicial Qualifications Committee, committee for selection of competitors admitted Livia Slica to be appropriate for the post of a senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate of the Supreme Court.
Livija Slica has worked as a judge of Administrative regional court since 2004, and she has replaced vacancy of a senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate of the Supreme Court since June, 2011. Before Livija Slica started her work in administrative courts, she was judge of departments of land register of Preili and Daugavpils.
Livija Slica was born in 1971. She graduated Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia in 1997 and got Professional Master of Law in Latvian Police Academy in 2009. The judge was assigned the 2nd qualification class in 2011.
Competition for the post of a judge of the Supreme Court took place according to Paragraph Three of Section 51 of the law “On Judicial Power” for the first time. This paragraph was included in the law with amendments of June 9, 2011, providing that selection of candidates for the post of a judge is organized in open competition. One candidate applied for the post of a senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate in open competition announced on the 23rd of January.
