To share experience and to discuss using of evidence obtained in operational activities in criminal procedure, the Supreme Court of Estonia on 11-12 September organises discussion on this even more topical issue between judges of Supreme Courts of the Baltic States. Representatives of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia – Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Peteris Dzalbe, the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases and Ervins Kuskis, the Chair of the Chamber of Criminal Cases, went to Tartu to participate in discussion.

Representatives of each state have prepared report on legal basis of use of operational activities in their state and on case-law in such cases. Having listened reports, judges will discuss on experience of three states and case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in cases related to violations of human rights caused by operational activities.

“When developing understanding about human rights and amount thereof, and taking into account judgements of the European Court of Human Rights, problems occur and will occur, which should be solved within practice of application of laws and by improving legal acts,” Peteris Dzalbe, the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases, who will report on Latvian experience, points out.
