On 21 May, the Saeima (Parliament) in secret vote repeatedly confirmed Eriks Kalnmeiers, the previous Prosecutor General, who was nominated by Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice if the Supreme Court, in the office of the Prosecutor general for the second term.
76 parliamentarians voted for Eriks Kalnmeiers, none voted against, and one person abstained from voting.
In accordance with Section 50 (3) of the law “On Judicial Power”, the Chief Justice submits proposal to the Saeima on appointment of the Prosecutor General to the office upon coordination with the Council for the Judiciary. The Council for the Judiciary supported nomination of candidacy of Eriks Kalnmeiers to the office of the Prosecutor General.
