Today, on February 20, the President of the State Andris Berzins in his temporary residence in the blackheads House met Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
During the conversation, the President received information about performance of the court in 2013, which shows that the Supreme Court reviewed more than 5000 cases, number of cases received does not decrease, thus number of cases pending increases. Results of performance of the court will be analysed at the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court, which will take place tomorrow, on February 21.
One of topicalities of the Supreme Court, namely, its reorganisation due to court reform, which envisages liquidation of court chambers, was discussed with the President.
Officials also discussed procedure, how candidate to the office of a judge of the Constitutional Court is nominated from among judges, and issue regarding loss of historical title of the Senate to cassation instance.
Meeting of the President of the State and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is annual tradition.
