On August 2, Senator Peteris Opincans, having served 31 years as a judge, terminates his judicial duties at the Department of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court Senate and will retire.

He had been the Chairperson of Liepaja Court, the Chairperson of the Criminal Court Chamber of Kurzeme Regional Court, and since 2000 he has been the Judge of the Supreme Court: 12 years in the Chamber of Criminal Cases, since 2012 – in the Department of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court.

For the last six years, Peteris Opincans has been a member of the Judicial Disciplinary Committee. Due to his termination of judicial office, the election of a member of this judicial self-government body has been announced.

Peteris Opincans has been awarded the 3rd degree Honorary Badge of the Justice System for his long-term exemplary, honest and creative performance of judicial duties, and the 1st degree Honorary Badge of the Justice System for his lifetime contribution to the judicial system.
