On May 17, during Museum Night, the Supreme Court welcomed more than 900 visitors. We would like to thank every visitor for the interest shown! It was wonderful to see so many curious and happy people.
At the courtroom, visitors had the opportunity to meet Supreme Court senators, and conversations with Senators Kristīne Zīle, Anita Kovaļevska, Inese Grauda and Aldis Laviņš proved to be interesting and informative. Many also took the opportunity to have their photo taken with a senator as a souvenir.
A special feature of this year's Museum Night was a unique exhibition of judges' robes, showcasing the official attires of judges from the supreme courts of 24 European countries. As many visitors were guests from abroad, they were particularly surprised and delighted to see the robes of judges from their own countries.
Visitors learned about the history of the Latvian Senate and the Supreme Court at the Supreme Court Museum, as well as by viewing the exhibition “Senators' Gifts to the Supreme Court Museum” and the photo gallery of Honorary Judges.
Moreover, visitors could learn about the work of the present-day Supreme Court by watching various videos and animated films, as well as talking to Court’s representatives.
Visitors appreciated both the information they learned and simply the opportunity to visit the Palace of Justice, built in 1938, and see its symbolic grandeur.
Museum Night is an international event, which took place in Latvia for the 21st time. The Supreme Court participated for the third time. We are pleased with the growing interest of visitors.
