On July 2, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Aigars Strupiss met with Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins to discuss possible cooperation between the executive and the judiciary in order to strengthen the rule of law in the country.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was pleased with the opportunity to discuss the problems existing in the country from the point of view of both the executive and the judiciary. During the meeting, Aigars Strupiss emphasized the need for all authorities in Latvia to cooperate and engage in discussions. "We are independent, but all in the same boat, and all the authorities in Latvia must row this boat together," the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court said.

During the meeting, a number of important issues were highlighted, including the training system for judges, the remuneration system for public officials, employees of courts and of law enforcement authorities, as well as particular lengthy court proceedings and possible solutions to reduce their length.
