On May 21, the Saeima (parliament) unanimously approved Senator Aigars Strupiss as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Aigars Strupiss will take up the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as of June 16, when the term of office of current Chief Justice Ivars Bickovics expires.
Aigars Strupiss, Chair of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, was nominated by the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court for the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The Judicial Council also expressed positive support for the candidate.
