The Department of Civil Cases was established on October 3, 1995.

Aigars STRUPISS is the Chair of the Department of Civil Cases.

In 1990, Aigars Strupiss graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, currrently he is continuing doctoral studies.

He was appointed the Chair of the Department of Civil Cases in 2018. He has been a judge of the Supreme Court since 2014. Prior to that, he has acquired experience in academic and research work being a lecturer in the University of Latvia for 20 years. Concurrently, he was doing practical work in the field of private law, has been an expert in legal matters in various projects. He has led the working group for elaboration of the Commercial Law, participated in developing of the Group of Companies Law, Law on Commercial Pledge, Insolvency Law, Associations and Foundations Law, etc.

 

The Department of Civil Cases consists of the Chair and fourteen judges.

Each judge in the Department of Civil Cases has a personal assistant.

Two legal research counsels and consultant also work in the Department.

Office work of the department is ensured by the Chancery of the Supreme Court.
