Elections of institutions of judicial self-government shall be held in electronic form

In accordance with Plan of organization and course of elections of institutions of judicial self-government for year 2014, members of the Board of Justice from among judges shall be elected at the conference, which shall be held in presence on 5 September, but members of other institutions of judicial self-government – in extramural (e-conference) on September, 12.

New Board of Justice shall be elected at Judges’ Conference of 5 September

The Board of Justice approved Plan of organization and course of elections of institutions of judicial self-government for year 2014, which envisages organizing of elections of the Board of Justice in presence at Judges’ Conference, which shall be held on 5 September in Riga Congress Hall, using elements of electronic conference in respect of nomination of candidates.

The Board of Justice supported appointment of Stanislavs Linkevics, the judge of the Administrative district court, to the office of the Chair of Rezekne court house, and appointment of the judge Guntars Plorins to the office of the Chair of Valmiera court house of the Administrative district court.

The Board of Justice listened to information summarised by the Ministry of Justice on standards of examination of cases in district (city) courts and regional courts, which were determined by courts, and opinions of courts in respect of differences of standards.

Gradual implementation of concept of court houses is supported

The Board of Justice listened to information of the Ministry of Justice regarding advancement of so called concept of court houses, which envisages to re-examine previous court catchment areas and to consolidate areas of district (city) courts located within catchment area of a regional court, creating one court of the first instance legally, transforming former courts into court houses.

Judges’ Conference shall be held on September, 5

The Board of Justice decided to convene annual Latvian Judges’ Conference on September 5, and conceptually agreed that the fundamental issue at this conference shall be assessment of the first stage of activity of the Board of Justice and elections of new composition of the Board.
