STUDENTS OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES LEARN ABOUT THE WORK OF THE SUPREME COURT

On May 7, the 2nd year students of the Department of Communication Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia visited the Supreme Court in order to get acquainted with the work of the Supreme Court and its cooperation with the media.

JUDGES OF THE SUPREME COURT RECEIVE THE MARK OF DISTINCTION OF THE SYSTEM OF JUSTICE

On 3 May, at the solemn ceremony held at the National Library of Latvia, the judges of the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court Anita Cernavska and Lubova Kusnire received the Mark of Distinction of the System of Justice of the Third Class for exemplary, decent and creative execution of professional responsibilities.

THE SUPREME COURT RECEIVES DONATION – THE COLLECTION OF LEGAL LITERATURE OF SENATOR AUGUSTS RUMPETERS

On May 3 the Supreme Court received a valuable gift – Videmars Rumpeters, the grandson of senator Augusts Rumpeters, donated his grandfather's collection of legal literature - 143 books and collections of laws in Latvian, German and Russian.

ON WHITE TABLECLOTH DAY THE MOVIE “SENATORS” IS SHOWN IN GARKALNE

During the celebration of the White Tablecloth Day, which took place in Garkalne Public Centre on the afternoon of May 3, the visitors watched the movie “Senators” – a story about 30 senators who worked in the Senate of Latvia or the court of cassation in the first period of the independence of Latvia in 1918-1940.

SENATORS ALEKSANDRS GUBENS AND MIKELIS GOBINS ARE BEING COMMEMORATED IN CESVAINE

Referring to the call of the Supreme Court to organize events dedicated to senators in the municipalities where the senators of the Senate of Latvia (1918-1940) were born, and watch the movie “Senators”, on May 2 in memory of senators Aleksandrs Gubens and Mikelis Gobins such event was organized in Cesvaine, in which the Chief Justice and judges of the Supreme Court also took part.

ON MEDIA DAY THE SUPREME COURT CLARIFIES THE ABC OF JUDICIAL PROCEEDINGS

On annual Media Day which this time took place on April 25, the ABC of judicial proceedings was presented to journalists writing about work of courts. The Chief Justice, chairs of the departments and legal research counsels tried to explain complicated judicial proceedings in simple words, useful for media representatives.

THE DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE CASES TAKES PART IN CREATION OF SPECIAL ISSUE OF “JURISTA VĀRDS”

The issue of journal "Jurista Vārds" (“Lawyer’s Word”) of April 24 is devoted entirely to administrative law and chairs, judges and assistants to judges of all three court instances participated in its creation. The guest editor of "Jurista Vārds" is Dita Plepa, legal research counsel to the Department of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court, who in turn involved almost all department in the project.
