REGISTERS OF THE SESSIONS AND ASSIGNMENT HEARINGS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE SENATE ARE DIGITIZED

Continuing the cooperation between the Supreme Court and the National Archives of Latvia, the collection of digital materials of the Archives "Insight into the Senate Documents 1919-1940" is supplemented. Now, everyone interested can get acquainted with the registers of the sessions of the General Assembly and assignment hearings of the Senate, that are stored in the State Historical Archives of Latvia (a unit of the National Archives of Latvia) – the fund No 1535 "The Senate of Latvia".

On June 8, the Supreme Court was visited by Paul Craig, the world's leading academician of the EU law, co-author of Craig & de Burca “EU Law: Text, Cases and Materials” – the famous ‘Bible’ of the EU law, and professor of English Law at the University of Oxford.

CHAIR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL CASES MEETS WITH THE US FEDERAL JUDGE

On May 31, Peteris Dzalbe, the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, met with US federal judge Richard Stearns, who arrived in Latvia to identify issues regarding which the US government could support Latvia in strengthening its rule of law.

DELEGATION FROM KAZAKHSTAN LEARNS ABOUT JUDICIAL SYSTEM OF LATVIA

On May 25, the Supreme Court was visited by a delegation from Kazakhstan, which had arrived in Latvia within the framework of a training project implemented by Riga Graduate School of Law. The participants came from the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, the courts of first and second instance, as well as Agency for Civil Service Affairs and Anti-Corruption of Kazakhstan.

THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE SUPREME COURT HIGHLIGHTS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF JUDICIAL DIALOGUE

In the opening of the international conference "The role of constitutional courts in the globalized world of the 21st century", the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Ivars Bickovics, emphasized the importance of judicial dialogue in the processes of globalization. "Mutual judicial assessment of conclusions and promotion of the protection of democratic values ​​is the highest guarantor of the rule of law," said the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
