BANK ACCOUNT IS CHANGED FOR SECURITY DEPOSIT PAYMENT FOR FILING AN ANCILLARY COMPLAINT, REQUEST OF TEMPORARY PROTECTION, APPLICATION ON RE-ADJUDICATION OF A CASE DUE TO NEWLY DISCOVERED CIRCUMSTANCES IN ADMINISTRATIVE CASES

The party to administrative proceedings who submits an ancillary complaint to the Department of Administrative Cases, as well as request of temporary protection and an application on re-adjudication of a case due to newly discovered circumstances in an administrative case shall take into account that hereafter security deposit for these activities must be paid to the Supreme Court deposit account.

REPRESENTATIVES OF THE SUPREME COURT LEARN ABOUT THE WORK OF OFFICE OF JUDICIAL SUPPORT IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

At the end of September, in order to get acquainted with the legal status of assistants to judges, advisers and of other court support staff, organization of work and cooperation with judges, legal research counsels Kristine Zemite and Nora Magone, and assistants to judges Silvija Kuskina, Madara Storha and Darta Eglite, participated in an experience exchange visit to the Czech Republic.

AN OAK WILL FLOURISH IN MEMORY OF KRISTAPS VALTERS, THE FIRST CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE SENATE OF LATVIA

On Tuesday, October 3, in honour of the first Chief Justice of the Senate of Latvia – Kristaps Valters who was born in Kuldiga, representatives of the Supreme Court planted a memorial oak in Kuldiga and visited the Senator's resting place in Rumba parish. With this event, the Supreme Court initiated the centenary anniversary of the Senate of Latvia.

JUDGE OF THE SUPREME COURT OF ESTONIA VISITS THE SUPREME COURT OF LATVIA IN THE FRAMEWORK OF EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union implements experience exchange programme also in 2017. The aim of the exchange programme is for the participants to get acquainted with the day-to-day work of colleagues from other countries, as well as to promote mutual trust between the judicial institutions, giving them the opportunity to get to know each other and work together.

THE SUPREME COURT MARKS ITS CENTENARY ANNIVERSARY BY DEVOTING MEMORIAL OAK TO KRISTAPS VALTERS

On Tuesday, 3 October, the Supreme Court will mark the centenary anniversary of the Senate of Latvia in Kuldiga, in the hometown of Kristaps Valters, the first Chief Justice of the Senate. On Tuesday at 2pm a commemorative event will be held at the Kuldiga City Garden, where the oak tree will be planted in memory of Kristaps Valters. The oak will be planted by all three Chief Justices of the restored Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia – current Chief Justice Ivars Bickovics and former Chief Justices Gvido Zemribo and Andris Gulans together with the head of the municipality Inga Berzina.

REPRESENTATIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL CASES GAIN EXPERIENCE IN EFFECTIVIZATION OF JUDICIAL WORK IN SWEDEN

On September 20-22, the representatives of the Department of Civil Cases participated in the experience exchange and visited the Supreme Court of Sweden in Stockholm and the District Court of Södertörn, which is the court of first instance.

SUPREME COURT DISCUSSES THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CASSATION PROCEEDINGS

The Supreme Court's strategy for 2017-2019 sets two priorities: the efficient and high-quality judiciary and the strengthening of the authority of the Supreme Court. These tasks are practically ‘eternal’ – it is the essence of the Supreme Court to strengthen the democratic legal system by ensuring a fair trial. A fair court is a fair judgment and adjudication of case within reasonable period of time. This was a leitmotif for the conference of the Supreme Court "Efficiency of Cassation Proceedings: Problems and Solutions" on September 18.

On Friday, September 29, public authorities throughout Latvia are inviting everybody interested to get acquainted with their daily work. On this day, people are given an opportunity to get insight into the work of the Supreme Court, explore the Palace of Justice and learn the history of the court.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EUROPEAN CASE LAW IDENTIFIER IN LATVIA IS ADDRESSED DURING THE CONFERENCE

Since the beginning of 2016, the Court Administration has been working on the implementation of the European Case Law Identifier (ECLI) ​​in Latvia. The implementation of the ECLI number is being carried out within the framework of the European Commission's national or international e-Justice project “Justice Programme 2014-2020”.
