The fact that the professor Kalvis Torgans is a prolific author of legal literature is a general truth – he can take pride in both having the highest number of publications and the heaviest book of commentaries, as well as his legal findings are cited most often. The opening of the book "Kalvis Torgans in the field of civil rights and in life" on 17 May at the University of Latvia was a special event, because the book is about the author himself – a bright personality of Kalvis Torgans, who has also been Senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court.

On 16 May the Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union published a statement expressing concern about the activities of Polish authorities regarding the planned appointment procedure of the President of the Supreme Court and changes in the work of the Council for the Judiciary.

Some time ago, the young lawyers from Germany expressed a great desire to visit the Supreme Court of Latvia in order to get acquainted with the organization of work at the court and the judicial system as a whole. Thus, on 11 May Rihards Gulbis, Legal Research Counsel to the Department of Civil Cases, met with young lawyers from Munich, who are studying law and also are currently employed in judicial institutions.
