FROM MAY 1 THE RECEPTION HOURS IN THE SUPREME COURT ARE CHANGED

From May 1, 2017, new working hours of the Supreme Court are set, and therefore the reception hours of visitors also are changed.

THE ROLE OF RESEARCH WORK AT SUPREME COURTS INCREASES

On 21 April, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia organized an International conference. During the conference the role of Divisions of Research of the Supreme Courts were discussed, as well as the cooperation of Courts with higher education institutions. The discussion was led by the Director of Center of Continuing Legal Education and Professional Development of the University of Latvia, Prof. Dr. iur. Kristine Strada-Rozenberga.

OPINION ON THE ACTIVITY OF THE COUNCIL FOR THE JUDICIARY

During the conference of 21 April "Supreme Courts as guarantee for effectiveness of judicial systems in the European Union" organized by the Supreme Court of Latvia, Dr.iur. Aivars Endzins, Chair of the Commission for Legal Environment created by the President of Latvia, spoke about possibilities to improve the authority of the Council for the Judiciary of Latvia.

EC REPORT: INDICATORS SHOW THAT PERFORMANCE EFFICIENCY OF JUDICIAL SYSTEM OF LATVIA IMPROVES EVERY YEAR

On 10 April 2017 the European Commission published the 2017 EU Justice Scoreboard. This is the fifth report, which analyzes the efficiency, quality and independence of judicial systems. Preparation of the report data required participation of 28 EU Member States; the report includes a number of quality indicators, as well as provides a deeper analysis of certain areas.

DELEGATION FROM TURKMENISTAN LEARNS ABOUT THE ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE IN LATVIA

Monday, 3 April, the delegation of the Republic of Turkmenistan visited the Supreme Court of Latvia. Guests met with the Chair of the Department of Administrative Cases Veronika Krumina and judge’s assistant Natalja Purina. The colleagues from Turkmenistan were presented with administrative procedure and rights of Latvian judicial system.
