JUDGE JANIS NEIMANIS JOINS THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT

Today, March 31, Judge of the Department of Administrative Cases Janis Neimanis for the period of 10 years ceases to exercise his duties at the Supreme Court, since he is being approved as judge of the Constitutional Court.

REPRESENTATIVES OF THE SUPREME COURT MEET WITH EXPERTS OF JUDICIAL INSTITUTIONS OF THE UNITED STATES

Tuesday, March 28, the Supreme Court was visited by experts from the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the US. The visit took place in the framework of cooperation project between governments of the US and Latvia in order to strengthen the judicial system of Latvia in relation to financial crime investigation.

ESSENTIALS OF THE WORK OF THE SUPREME COURT IN 2016: THE REFORM AND DECREASE IN ACCUMULATION OF CASES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL CASES

The Supreme Court has successfully concluded the year 2016 which was the year of two significant judicial reforms in the history of courts of Latvia. Now, the Supreme Court is ready to operate having new status, being merely the cassation instance, as was stated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics at the Plenary Session of 3 March.

ACCUMULATION OF CASES OF THE SUPREME COURT HAS DECREASED BY 37%

Already for a second year there is a positive tendency – the significant decrease in accumulation of cases of the Supreme Court. At the beginning of 2015 there were 3,949 cases pending, yet at the beginning of 2017 there were 1,849 cases pending, which is 2.1 times less.
