THE JUDGE SKULTANE PRESENTS HER ROBE OF A JUDGE OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT TO THE MUSEUM

The collection of the museum of the Supreme Court is supplemented by valuable exhibit – the robe of a judge of the Constitutional Court, which was presented to the museum by Ilze Skultane, the former judge of the Constitutional Court, currently – the judge of the Supreme Court.

MARKS OF DISTINCTION OF THE SYSTEM OF JUSTICE ARE PRESENTED IN STATE HOLIDAY

In the ceremonial event organised by the Ministry of Justice on 20 November in honour of the anniversary of proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, Anita POlakova, the judge of the Department of Criminal Cases, Anda Briede, the judge of the Department of Civil Cases, and Sandra Lapina, the Head of the Administration of the Supreme Court, received the highest award of the system of justice – the Mark of Distinction.

THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL CASES: NEW ADJUDICATION OF A CASE DUE TO NEWLY DISCOVERED CIRCUMSTANCES IS NOT AN ALTERNATIVE TO APPEAL OR CASSATION

This year, the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court recognised as founded and satisfied only two applications on transfer of a case for new adjudication in the first instance court due to newly discovered circumstances, although number of such applications, comparing to tenth months of previous year, multiplied by 5.3.

Seeing in the 97th anniversary of proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, on 17 November, festive collective event was held in the Supreme Court, in which musical solemn mood was created by the brass band of Riga Secondary School No. 6.

THE SUPREME COURT GETS FAMILIARISED WITH SOLUTIONS OF THE EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS TO ACCELERATE EXAMINATION OF CASES

This week, the delegation of the Supreme Court visited the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to get familiarised with its solutions on acceleration of examination of cases and to participate in the court hearing by the Grand Chamber.

THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE SUPREME COURT ACCEPTS AN OATH OF TWO BAILIFFS

On 29 October, Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, accepted an oath of two bailiffs. Dana Krumina became the bailiff of Riga regional court, and Liga Kavite – in Vidzeme regional court.

Still being printed in printing-house, the 11th issue of the Supreme Court Bulletin is already available for reading in electronic form. The bulletin is expected eagerly, as in includes materials from the international conference “Commercial Law in Baltic Legal Space” dedicated to the 150th anniversary of August Loeber.

GREAT-GRANDSON OF VLADIMIRS BUKOVSKIS VISITS THE MUSEUM OF THE SUPREME COURT

In two years, in 2017, when there will be the 150th anniversary of the senator of the Senate of Latvia, the Professor of the University of Latvia Vladimirs Bukovskis, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia, in cooperation with the family of Bukovskis, could organise some events dedicated to him, for example, to organise a conference or to collaborate in publishing of the outstanding “Study Book on Civil Procedure” composed by the classic of Latvian civil law.
